Twitter is an online social networking site where you can post short updates (maximum 280 characters). It is useful for sharing headlines, updates, excerpts of news releases, announcements, job vacancies, publications and live reports from events. Statistics, facts, figures, sound bites and informative news items are popular content on Twitter.
IFAD uses Twitter to share messages and news in real time and to raise awareness about our activities. Content on Twitter is searchable and visible to the entire internet community. Twitter usernamesUsername (Twitter Handle): A username is how you're identified on Twitter, and is always preceded immediately by the @ symbol. IFAD's username is @IFAD. A twitter handle can identify a person or an institution.

What is a hashtag?
A hashtag is a word or phrase preceded by the symbol # that classifies or categorizes the accompanying text (such as a tweet or other social media posts). It allows people to easily follow topics they are interested in. When using a hashtag in a post you connect with the broader conversation on that topic, and you increase the chances of your message being seen by others who are interested in this topic.

- People use the hashtag symbol (#) before a relevant keyword or phrase in their social media post to categorize them and help them show more easily in search.
- Clicking or tapping on a hashtagged word in any message shows you other posts that include that hashtag.
- Hashtags can be included anywhere in a social media posts.
- Hashtagged words that become very popular are often Trending Topics.
- Don't overuse hashtags. One or two per post is fine.

For easy reference, you can organize the people you follow into a list.
- From your profile click on Profile and Settings menu to show the drop down menu
- Click on lists
- Click on Create new list
- Select a name for your list, and a short description of the list. Then select if you want the List to be private (only accessible to you) or public
- Click Save list
- Go to the profile page you would like to add
- Click the icon on the account’s profile (next to the Follow button)
- Select add or remove from lists
